GRAEME Cain has taken out the top award at the Australian Chrysanthemum Championships.

The Laanecoorie gardener only had to take his blooms a few hundreds metres to the town’s mechanics’ institute hall at the weekend where hundreds came from across Victoria to see some of the best blooms on display.

Graeme’s Mt Shasta bloom, a Japanese variety, was given the nod by judges ahead of Tasmanian exhibitor Jim Fletcher who had arrived with his Flair variety bloom.

And Graeme’s partner Julia Ramsey took out the bowl arrangement prize. Bendigo’s Sandra Daniels won the floral art section and Kym Looker, of Lockwood, the novice section.
