LODDON kindergartens are smiling after getting the accreditation tick under Dental Health Services Victoria’s Smiles 4 Miles oral health promotion and prevention program.
Kindergarten leaders from Pyramid Hill, Wedderburn, Dingee, Boort and Inglewood received their certificates at the Loddon Kindergarten Cluster meeting in Bridgewater last Thursday.
Smiles 4 Miles Program state manager Fiona Gallagher, shire wellbeing director Wendy Gladman and Crs Linda Jungwirth and Wendy Murphy made the presentations. Helping bring kindergartens to accreditation were Nicole Fuller of Boort Dental Clinic and Northern District Community Health Service.
NDCH’s Tanya Maher-Toose said: “This program works with the kinder children and their families to support and increase the uptake of evidenced based oral health care under three themes: Eat Well, Drink Well and Clean Well.
“Smiles 4 Miles is an initiative of Dental Health Services Victoria which aims to improve the oral health of children and their families in high risk areas across Victoria.
“Tooth decay is Australia’s most common health problem.
“Smiles 4 Miles assists early childhood services to encourage and promote good oral health habits and healthy eating among children in their care,” Tanya said after the presentations.
