Golden spuds warm winter

FOUR of the world’s most famous gold nuggets - all found within a quick drive from Inglewood - have inspired a winter menu at a local cafe.
Baked potatoes being served at Cafe 3517 have been dubbed the Welcome Stranger, Posoidon, Blanche Barkly and Hand of Faith.
Cafe owners David and Brook Smythe said the winter range would connect locals and visitors to the district’s rich gold mining history.
“Inglewood sits in the heart of one of the richest goldfields in the world. During the 1850s, thousands of hopeful diggers flocked to our region chasing fortune, and the surrounding towns of Moliagul, Kingower and Tarnagulla produced some of the largest gold nuggets ever discovered—including the Welcome Stranger, the biggest alluvial gold nugget ever found,” they said. “We want to celebrate this incredible local history by naming each of our loaded baked potatoes after these famous discoveries.”
The Blanche Barkly (49.4kg) was found at Kingower in 1857, Welcome Stranger (72kg) at Moliagul in 1869, Posoidon (29.6kg) on Melbourne Cup Day 1906 near Tarnagulla and Hand of Faith (27kg) at Kingower in 1980.
