Entries will be received on Thursday for Wedderburn Patchwork Group's Christmas Community and Arts Festival.

Here, one of the organisers Irene Finch talks about the event

“It’s the same every year!” some of our critics quickly tell us. Organisers of the 2022 Festival beg to differ. The Wedderburn Patchwork Group, ably assisted by other lovers of handcrafts, are orgpresenting the festival again this year,

For starters, the name has changed. The 30 th Festival is now the Wedderburn Community Christmas and Arts Festival. The last festival was held in November 2019 and always marked the beginning of local Christmas festivities.

The COVID lockdowns were busy for young families who had to contend with remote learning. For others, especially retirees, many had never had so much “me time”. Many learned new skills, returned to unfinished projects or completed projects on their ‘bucket list’.

The 2022 Festival has been organised as an opportunity for our community to show off their COVID achievements. There are fewer prizes as the organisers believe “everyone’s a winner” by entering the sections on the schedule. There are no limits on the number of items that exhibitors may enter.

Judges will award a “Best Entry in Section” certificate and at their discretion, “Highly Commended” certificates.

There is no aggregate prize for the individual with the most prizes. There is however, a prize for the Christmas Challenge, “Almost Anything Goes”! Make any item, no bigger than 50 X 50 X 50cm, with a “touch of orange” on the front of the entry. Unlike previous years, there are no kits in 2022.

The Christmas Tree sections, likewise, have no restrictions, just Group, Individual and Children’s sections. Again, almost anything goes.

The organisers hope community members will let their imaginations run wild in sections such as a recycled / repurposed article and an item not scheduled.

Not everything has changed, however. There is a beautiful raffle quilt, catering by Susie Lockhart, market stalls, a large trading table and the local choir will entertain on Friday afternoon.

The dates are changed slightly. Thursday, November 24, from 2-6pm, entries to be lodged at the Hall. Doors open Friday, November 25, from 10.30am - 7pm and on Saturday, November 26, from 10am-3pm.

All entries must be collected from the Hall between 3pm – 4pm.

Saturday 26 th November is election day, so come to the Christmas Festival while you are in town!
