THE future hopes of supporting elderly people wanting to live in the Wedderburn community will be in the spotlight at a forum to canvas options.

The town has been campaigning and raising funds for more than two decades for residential aged accommodation.

Wedderburn Aged Care Committee now wants to bring stakeholders and government to the one table on October 2 to canvass options.

Committee member Lynne Turner said: “For many years, the Wedderburn community has recognised the need for local aged care services and has worked tirelessly to explore options for the future.

“While there has been strong community support and considerable work undertaken over the years, the need for a sustainable local solution remains,” she said.

Lynne said community members, government representatives, health professionals, aged care providers and local organisations would come together to discuss the future of aged care in the district.

“The forum has been organised to bring everyone to the table, to share information, hear from industry experts, explore opportunities and work together towards a shared vision for aged care in Wedderburn.

“Like many rural communities across Australia, Wedderburn faces the challenge of ensuring older residents can continue to live close to their families, friends and the community they have helped build.

“The forum aims to identify practical pathways and partnerships that can help make that vision a reality.

“Our older residents have spent their lives building this community. They deserve the opportunity to remain part of it as they grow older.”

Organisers hope the forum will generate ideas and strengthen relationships between government, health services, aged care providers and the local community to support the next stage of the project.
