PYRAMID Hill’s Loddon Valley finals hopes are alive and kicking after a 22-goal win over Bears Lagoon Serpentine.

The Bulldogs are now only half a game behind Marong in the race for fifth place.

They were always in control over the injury-hit Bears, with a 14-8 third quarter setting up a comfortable end to the game.

The battle with Marong is a fascinating one.

Pyramid Hill plays winless Macorna this week, while the Panthers take on Maiden Gully – both would expect wins, leaving the last round as a likely thriller.

The Dogs face second-placed Newbridge, and Marong travels to unbeaten Mitiamo, so they may need to knock off the mighty Superoos to ensure a finals appearance.

NEWBRIDGE climbed to second on the ladder after winning a tight battle with Marong.

The Maroons are all but certain to meet Bridgewater in the first week of the finals, while the Panthers are hanging on grimly to the last finals’ spot for the moment.

Marong put in a supreme second-quarter effort to level the match at half-time after trailing by five goals at the first change, but the Maroons pulled away in the third quarter and extended the lead in the last term. The 13-goal win saw Newbridge leapfrog Bridgewater and Marong drop to fifth behind Inglewood.

Newbridge and Inglewood play each other this week, but the Blues can’t overtake the Maroons on the ladder.

Newbridge finishes the home and away season against Pyramid Hill – a game which may decide the Bulldogs’ finals fate.

Marong has Maiden Gully this week, before a nightmare finish against the seemingly impregnable Mitiamo.

WINLESS Macorna gave Calivil a serious fright in A Grade netball before the Demons steadied for a 17-goal win.

The Tigers roared out of the blocks to take a three-goal lead to the first break, but Calivil responded with a 16-8 second quarter.

The Demons put the game beyond doubt after half-time, adding another 17 goals to Macorna’s seven in the third quarter.

Calivil has six wins in a season of steady improvement under new coach Annie Blow, with a tough match this week against Bridgewater before meeting strugglers Maiden Gully in the last round.
