REPORTS of family violence in Loddon communities have dropped for the first time in five years.

Crime Statistics Agency data released last week showed there had been 148 incidents for the year ended December.

Reported incidents had been increasing since 2021 with a spike in offences in 2024.

The drop of 25 reported incidents last year had the Loddon Shire figure similar to 2023.

Family incidents decreased 1.2 per cent statewide in the last 12 months, with 103,529 incidents recorded.

Meanwhile, criminal incidents jumped 5.6 per cent with the largest increases in Wedderburn and Inglewood.

The incident rate was cut in Pyramid Hill and Korong Vale. However, the number of reported incidents dropped in Inglewood.

Member for Northern Victoria Region Gaelle Broad said: “Victorians are less safe than ever before as Crime Statistics Agency data confirms criminal offending has reached a new all-time high under Labor.

“Across the state, a total of 630,592 crimes were committed – the equivalent of one crime every 50 seconds. Motor vehicle theft increased by 11 per cent – the equivalent of one car stolen every 16.4 minutes.

“And 286,329 crimes remain unsolved – that’s almost half of all recorded offences and a 15 per cent increase over the past year,” Ms Broad said.

Crime was up in most Northern Victoria local governmernt areas, she said.
