Fire brigade volunteers have been doorknocking Wedderburn in the early hours this morning after an EVACUATE NOW was issued at 1.12am with Skinners Flat Reservoir expected to breach.

A relief centre has been opened at Wedderburn Hall. It is believed residents may be allowed to return home after 7.30am.

The SES has said an update on the evacuation direction was expected around 6am. A meeting was to have been taking place of emergency management at 5.30am.

Wendy Stoel had stayed at her home and said: "The water/creek has resided and did not come into the house."

Work was done on the reservoir wall on Wednesday. The Loddon Herald is seeking information from Loddon Shire Council on what work was done but it is understood it was on the reservoir wall.

The official EVACUATE NOW advice is:

  • The Skinners Flat Reservoir is likely to breach

  • This will result in approximately 3ft of strong fast moving waters from the Skinners Flat Reservoir through the Wedderburn Township via the Calder Highway and out towards Wedderburn Junction Road

  • If you are located in the highlighted Wedderburn area, it is strongly recommended that you evacuate now.

  • There is a relief center open at the Wedderburn Hall that residents should evacuate to as soon as possible

  • If the Skinners Flat Reservoir has already been breached at the time of receiving this message, cease evacuation and shelter towards the back of your house for approximately 1 hour, or until the water subsides

  • DO NOT ENTER THE FLASH FLOOD WATERS. IT IS DANGEROUS
