State election day has arrived with booths across the Loddon to open at 8am and voting closing at 6pm
Local booths are at Boort, Pyramid Hill and Calivil in the Murray Plains electorate, Serpentine and Dingee in the seat of Bendigo East and Bridgewater, Inglewood, Wedderburn, Newbridge, Tarnagulla, Dunolly and Bealiba in Ripon.
Victorian Electoral Commission says a record number of Victorians have chosen to vote early in this election. By the end of Thursday 1,906,930 had cast their votes – already significantly more than the 1,640,883 who voted early in 2018.
This will be the largest State election ever held in Victoria’s history with almost 4.4 million enrolled Victorians as at the close of rolls on Tuesday 8 November.
‘We will be sending our VoterAlert reminder tomorrow to all subscribers who have not yet voted to remind them to vote before 6 pm,’ said Acting Electoral Commissioner, Dana Fleming. ‘You can jump online at: maps.vec.vic.gov.au/elections and use our Voting Centre Locator to find your closest voting centre - the tip to avoid the queues is to get there in the middle of the afternoon.’
‘This year, a total of 1194 candidates have nominated – 454 for the Upper House, and 740 for the Lower House. Follow the instructions on your ballot paper to vote correctly, and ask for assistance if you need help to vote,’ said Ms Fleming.
