Elderly man in hospital after unit fire

A PYRAMID Hill man has been taken to hospital after a fire at his unit this evening.

The man, in his 80s, was taken by ambulance to Bendigo with burns and is believed to have since been airlifted to Melbourne.

Police said the fire that was reported about 5.15pm was not suspicious.

According to witnesses, neighbours of the Kelly St resident had broken windows to rescue the man and had the fire controlled when fire brigade volunteers arrived soon after.

They say the fire may have started in an electric armchair.
