Levy, who has campaigned at district lakes during duck season openings, has accepted an invitation from the town’s development and tourism committee president Bradley Haw to be an official at the fundraising rubber duck event as part of the annual Christmas street party.

“We’re not sure yet whether Laurie will start the race or be the judge as ducks come gushing down the gutter,” Bradley said.

The committee has already sold more than three-quarters of the 1800 ducks with proceeds to fund town improvement projects.

“The fire brigade has done a test of the water flow and the rubber ducks performed swimmingly,” Bradley said.

“The larger ducks, that have already sold out, could have a battle for line honours with the smaller ducks doing very well in the test the other day.”

The winning duck will earn its owner $1000 to spend at Boort businesses.

Levy, 83, founded the Coalition Against Duck Shooting and organised activists and duck rescuers to be on local wetlands during duck hunting season for several decades.

Last year he said “duck shooters illegally cut down and burnt important heritage scar trees at Lake Boort” also the Game Management Authority dismissed the claim.
