The new-look Bulldogs won by 21 points, reversing Inglewood’s lead at the final break and holding the Woodies goalles in the last quarter.

New Inglewood assistant coach Ian Aitken rallied hius troops at three-quarter time, telling them their massive advantage in inside-50 entries in the third term was not only due to the wind blowing hard in the favour to the highway goals, but also to their hard work.

The same determination against the wind in the last quarter would bring victory in the round-one clash, was his mantrra.

But Pyramid Hill had different ideas and was utterly dominant in the final term.

Inglewood barely able to get into their own half as the Bulldogs’ defenders constantly mopped up errant kicks.

Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, making his debut for Pyramid Hill after two brilliant seasons with Boort in the North Central league, typified the Bulldogs’ endeavour.

In the third quarter he was stationed at full-back and took his side’s kick outs as the Woodies peppered the goals, booting 6.5.

And in the last quarter he switched to attack and played a huge role in Pyramid Hill’s stunning comeback.

There were tense moments and some scoreboard confusion as the margin tighten but the Bulldogs rendered that puzzlement moot as they ran over the top of the tiring Blues.

New Bulldogs coach Jarrod Fitzpatrick was outstanding along with his former Boort teammate Baddeley-Kelly, while veteran Ben Knight turned back the clock with a typically bustling performance highlighted by two goals.

Young star Harrison Goodes kicked three goals for the winners, with Mitch Dingwall also booting three. Three of Inglewood’s Melbourne-based recruits were named as the Woodies’ best – Charlie Aitken, Curtis Day and the diminutive Mischa Fraillon along with club product Gabe Nevins back after a summer playing in the strong Northern Territory competition.

Inglewood faces another tough task at home against reigning premiers Marong this week, while Pyramid Hill is also confronting a huge battle against Bridgewater.
