COUNTRY Fire Authority is analysing demographic data to grow volunteer numbers on the books at Wedderburn Fire Brigade.
District 20’s Loddon catchment commander Bryan Suckling said the CFA’s volunteer sustainability team was looking at volunteer recruitment initiatives.
And he welcomed the support from Wedderburn CWA in raising awareness of the brigade’s need to boost numbers.
“The CFA is community driven in every facet,” Mr Suckling said.
Wedderburn brigade has just a handful of active volunteers.
Captain Anne Hassell was relieved of active duty in June after being diagnosed with type one diabetes. She is currently going through an appeal against the CFA’s decision.
Mr Suckling said some district office staff based at Kerang were working from the Wedderburn station two days a week to continue positive community connection. “For many years we have been working with the community to lift numbers and will continue to do so,” he said.
Mr Suckling said: “We have also been upskilling neighbouring brigades in the district.”
The CFA is about to launch a state-wide volunteer recruitment program.
