Demons keep hold of the Blowfly Cup
CALIVIL has comprehensively won the latest edition of bowls’ ‘Blowfly Cup’ with a 29-shot win over Dingee in Bendigo Area’s Division 4 on Saturday.

The win in the last round of home-and-away bowls secured Calivil’s top place in the division and a meeting with Kangaroo Flat in the first week of finals.
The team also has the double-chance in the finals, so a win will mean entry into the grand final and a loss will lead to a preliminary final showdown with the winner of Strathfieldsaye versus White Hills.
Both finals will be played at Marong.
Calivil won three of the four rinks against Dingee, with the most commanding result a 19-shot win by Keith Richards, Geoffrey Lourie, Graham Maxted and skip Glenn Ray.
Dingee’s win was recorded by Brad Cail, Susan Cail, Megan Grieves and Fyfe Grieves (skip), who won by two shots.
Calivil finished 29 points ahead of Kangaroo Flat after winning 10, losing two and drawing two matches during the season.
The semi-finals will played at Inglewood on Saturday.
Dingee won four matches to finish seventh in the division, 28 points ahead of wooden-spooners Marong.
BRIDGEWATER
Bridgewater’s Division 5 side hosted third-placed Bendigo in a crucial clash, with a win needed to secure the double chance. All rinks began strongly and the home side held a 13-shot break at the bell. The match tightened in the final ends, but Bridgewater steadied and maintained control to record an impressive 16-shot victory.
The best rink on the day belonged to Glenn Mangan, Jayden Leach, Glenn Catto and Peter Steinhaus, with Steinhaus producing his best performance of the season as lead.
Meanwhile, Bridgewater’s Goldfields side travelled to take on second-placed Maryborough Golf and went down 42–25. Chris Brooshoft’s rink again performed well, pushing hard before eventually falling by six shots, 20–14.
INGLEWOOD
It was an outstanding weekend of Pennant Bowls for Inglewood as three teams had to rally to avoid being in the relegation zones. To their credit they all rallied with confidence building wins.
In midweek pennant, Division 1 found the going a bit tough all season and once again had their colours lowered against one of the top teams in Bendigo.
Best rink on the day were Simon Laird, Doug Shay, Lindsay Kelly and Arthur Harrison(skip) only losing by four shots
Division 4 had another good win against Bendigo this time and avoided being in the relegation zone on percentage from Dingee and Calivil.
Best rink on the day were Edna Patterson, Kath McNaught, Rhonda Gallagher and Pam Lewis(skip) with a 17 shot win.
In weekend pennant, Division 5 had a day to remember with all rinks getting up to record a strong win by 22 shots.
Best rink on the day were Dave Shay, Dionne Roberts, Chris McEwan and Brendan Hopcott (skip) to win by nine shots.
Division 1 ended up having a solid win but it was close all day until Inglewood pulled away over the last few ends. Another encouraging performance under pressure and makes us look forward to next season.
