BOORT Show has attracted one of its largest crowds as people on Saturday flocked to the Loddon Shire’s only agricultural show.

There was an increase in pavilion section entries where judges spent all morning judging photographs, flowers, cooking and agricultural produce.

When the doors opened soon after lunch, excited youngsters were showing parents their award-winning works.

There were also awards for youngsters in the traditional Miss Tiny Tot sections where Tam O’Rourke and Ari Bucknall again had the task of deciding the best-dressed youngsters on the stage.

Among the winners was Arya Brooks , her right-arm in plaster after falling off the slide at home.

One of the show’s big drawcards, the truck show, this year surpassed expectations with 150 big rigs crammed onto the Boort Park oval.

Sam Freeman of Freemans Transport , Ballarat, saw his Kenworth T909 judged the best.

Outside the oval fence, dozens of farm and tradie utes added youthful exhuberance to the show and contrasted with vintage trucks and engines chugging away and emitting as much exhaust smoke.

In sideshow alley, dodgem cars were among the popular rides as drivers juggled steering the unpredictable vehicles and not spilling the contents of show bags purchased minutes before from the Boort District School parents’ association stall.

The shearing and woolhandling shed had a constant stream of patrons to see Anthony Free take out the local shearing title from Cameron Chalmers and Sam Whinfield with Mysia’s Gus Gould coming third in the novice event.

Gus was also part of the team helping to keep events running, taking his turn on the wool press.

Over at the yard dog trials, another local Jack Weaver, finished with the top novice section sash.

The show proved a day when Boort and locals were the winners.
