Cultural groups, duck ban crusaders dominate submissions
A MAJORITY of submissions have backed Aboriginal elder Gary Murray’s push to ban duck hunting at Lake Boort.

However, Victorian Duck Hunters’ Association has sided with Loddon Shire, saying: “With its rich resources and abundance of wildlife, Lake Boort has been the site of hunting and fishing for thousands of years and, since the colonial era, has been utilised as a resource for hunting by both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
“While the VDHA does not question the fact that the Aboriginal people of the area (and, indeed, the region) have a strong tradition of association with Lake Boort and its surrounds, we wish to point out that, since the 1840s, non-Aboriginals of the region have also developed a strong tradition of hunting.”
