Crews still on scene as major fire downgraded

CFA volunteers remain this morning on the scene of a fire that has destroyed at least 2000 hectares at Charlton and south to Woosang.

Emergency warnings around the fire near Charlton were downgraded to Advice - Threat is Reduced about 9.30pm last night.

Strikes teams from as far away as Romsey, Kerang and Mildura were called to the fire. Changeover crews arrived about 10pm.

People located within Charlton, Woosang, Yeungroon, Yeungroon East have been told to remain alert after the fire that started near the Charlton-St Arnaud Road.

The CFA has confirmed the Calder Highway between Charlton and Wedderburn is now OPEN, but the St Arnaud-Charlton Road remains CLOSED. The Calder Highway was closed for more than six hours.

Emergency services will remain in the area and continue to monitor and smoke may be visible from nearby communities and roads.
