AN ambulance station in Wedderburn was a project that could be funded by a Coalition government promising to give regional Victoria a quarter of the state’s infrastructure spend.
The Nationals candidate for Ripon, Jo Armstrong, said it was disappointing that current government promises on a new station had been made and broken.
Mrs Armstrong stopped short of a funding commitment but said there was a need for appropriate ambulance infrastructure in Wedderburn.
“The potential is there to have a proper, permanent service,” she said.
“It’s about the safety of crews.”
Labor MP Martha Haylett on Monday again denied it was a government decision to ditch the promised new station.
“It was the decision of Ambulance Victoria,” she said in Inglewood.
Ms Haylett said she had contacted new Health and Ambulance Services Minister Harriet Shing six weeks ago but was still waiting for a reply. “The minister’s team acknowledges the need for it,” she said.
Wedderburn Development Association has asked Ms Shing to review the decision.
Community campaigner Darryl Arnott said the call remained for answers on why the promised station was ditched. “Who made the decision when everyone admits it is needed?”
Ms Shing has been contacted for comment.
