LODDON Shire Council will pick up the tab to make sure residents know details of the Victorian Electoral Commission review of ward boundaries.
The VEC last week said it would only promote information sessions on the review in Melbourne media but left the door open for council to request local awareness campaigns, organised by the VEC but billed to the shire.
“The VEC will also place geo-targeted sponsored social media advertisements for councils that choose this,” said VEC communication manager Marie Guerin.
Loddon Shire this week said: “Council will be supporting the VEC information and advertising campaign regarding the ward boundary review (including information sessions) via our usual channels, including media releases, the weekly Mayoral Column, our weekly advertisement in the Loddon Herald and council’s social media channels.”
The VEC review of boundaries for the Boort, Inglewood, Tarnagulla, Terrick and Wedderburn Wards will start on February 21. “We will be hosting information sessions ahead of that date, to explain the process,” the VEC said last week.
Recommended boundary changes will need to be approved by the State Government before October’s elections.
