Council’s election wish list
LODDON Shire Council has gone on to the front foot in the lead up to this year’s Victorian State Election, releasing a list of its major priorities – and why they matter.
LODDON Shire Council has gone on to the front foot in the lead up to this year’s Victorian State Election, releasing a list of its major priorities – and why they matter. Council’s Priorities 2026 document lays out the major strategic priorities requiring government investment and support to deliver positive social, economic and community outcomes across Loddon Shire. It supersedes the previous such document, prepared for the May 2025 Federal Election, and aligns with Council’s Community Vision 2035 and Council Plan 2025-2029, which have been developed since. Priorities 2026 is split into two sections – Priorities and Advocacy Matters. The identified priorities are eight key Council-led initiatives requiring significant government investment and support for infrastructure or major service enhancements:

Wedderburn Flood Risk Reduction Upgrade
Pyramid Hill Community Centre Stage 2
Critical Drainage Upgrade for Pyramid Hill Township

Enabling Housing Growth Advocacy matters include broader areas where Council will continue to advocate for government investment, support and program funding
Emergency Services Volunteers Fund Levy
Mobile and Digital Connectivity
Fund a New Wedderburn Ambulance Victoria Branch
Rural Swimming Pool Renewal and Safety
Local Government Financial Sustainability
Structure Plans - Boort and Pyramid Hill

Strong Families Strong Children
Strong Youth Strong Communities Loddon Shire Mayor Dan Straub said the release of Priorities 2026 was timely, given November’s election. “Council has never been afraid to come forward when it comes to advocating for our communities and it is crucial as a small rural shire that we continue to do so and ensure our voice is heard,” he said.
