Confidence grows with big scalp win
BRIDGEWATER’S Division 5 weekend pennant bowls team is on a high after beating top side Kangaroo Flat in the Bendigo Playing Area competition.

The team got off to a strong start with Nick Saunders’ rink winning 26-18.
That was followed by a 16-shot win for the rink of Barbara Catto, Glenn Catto, Jayden Leach and Glenn Mangan.
Home team Kangaroo Flat fought back to win the last two rinks, but Bridgey’s early lead was enough to see the team home by three shots, 79-76.
Bridgewater is now third on the ladder behind Bendigo and Kangaroo Flat after four rounds.
The Goldfields Division 2 side hosted Talbot and won by two shots in a tight contest, with Ray Simons’ rink the best of the day.
The win kept Bridgewater in fourth spot on the ladder.
INGLEWOOD
The Woodies’ weekend pennant sides did not fare well, with both teams stuck on the bottom of their respective ladders. Division 5 lost to South Bendigo by just six shots, but the Division 1 team was thumped by Kangaroo Flat, 105-65.
Two of the Division 5 rinks won, and although at the tail of the ladder, the team is only six points away from fifth spot.
Best rink for the day was Ben Scobie, Barry McNaught, Bev Taig and skip Helen Leech, with an 11-shot win.
The next two weeks will be challenging for Inglewood, meeting top side Bendigo and then local rivals Bridgewater.
Despite the heavy overall defeat, the Division One team still managed a victory, with the rink of Blake Smyth, David Whitehead, Vickey Tierney and skip Craig Kelly getting home by one shot.
A tough run awaits, with Division 1 facing the top two sides away in the next fortnight.
The midweek teams also lost both matches on Monday, with division one losing to Kangaroo Flat 78-31 and division four beaten by top side Strathfieldsaye by 14 shots.
Helen Leech’s rink won 23-11, while Ian Bradley’s went down by just two shots.
