College sees big enrolment jump

STUDENT numbers have jumped above 200 at Wedderburn College as the new school year starts across the Loddon.
Principal Danny Forrest said 21 prep students would start their school journey tomorrow.
And the college saw a jump in Year 7 enrolments when 29 students started on Tuesday.
Mr Forrest said the school’s $12.9 million revedelopment and upgrade project would start later this month. The contract has been awarded to Nicholson Builders.
Boort District School has started the year with new principal Todd Woodfine arriving at the school after a previous appointment at Rushworth.
“I am excited to have the opportunity to lead the school this year and become part of the community,” Mr Woodfine said.
Boort’s enrolment is again at 200.
St Patrick’s Catholic Primary School in Pyramid Hill has seen students quickly settle in to routine with swimming sports starting next week.
Principal John O’Connor said new teachers at the school were Louise Murray, originally from Pyramid Hill, and Chris de Stefano who grew up at Macorna.
“It’s great to have both Louise and Chris, with their connection to the area, with us this year,” he said.
Mr O’Connor said a major event in term one would be Shrove Tuesday’s pancake day raising funds for Caritas.
St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Inglewood is preparing to move into its specialist arts area this year as works are completed on the 127-year-old former Presentation Sisters’ convent.
Inglewood Primary School has an enrolment of 38 and principal Lex Johnstone said a major activity would be in October when the Storey Players and students would research, script and perform a play on the history of the town.
Tarnagulla Primary School will officially see the handover of refurbished rooms this month.
Principal Leigh Mellberg said preparations had started for ther 150th anniversary later this year. He said former students were being asked to share old photographs and memorabilia from their years at the school.
While no prep students had enrolled at Tarnagulla this year, Mr Mellberg said there had been new arrivals at the school and numbers were the same as last year.
Principals across the Loddon said staff positions had been filled.
However. Mr Forrest said there could be challenges securing relief teachers to cover staff illnesses.
