Cockerell named Pies top player of season

FOR THE second year running, Alex Cockerell has taken out Boort Yando’s cricket player of the year.

Cockerell has been racking up the awards in summer and winter sport, taking out the North Central football reserves best-and-fairest trophy last season.

Josh Smith, who won the Upper Loddon Cricket Association batting average award this season, was named Boort Yando’s most valuable player, an award voted for by opposition captains. He also took out the club’s batting award.

Jack Weaver won the bowling prize for his 14 wickets at 11.79.

In junior ranks, Jake O’Flaherty’s stellar season was rewarded with the club’s player of the year trophy as well as the batting award.

He was named the competition’s Under 17s player of the season last week.

Archer Lee won the bowling award, while Anshel Sanil and Sid Caine took out encouragement awards.

The Under 13 team was beaten in the NDCA grand final, losing to a more mature Barham-Koondrook side by four wickets.

Connor McNally made 34 and took 1-7, Jed Perryman was 20 not out and claimed 1-15, while Tarlin Trinchi made 15. Jackson Durie had the best bowling return, taking 2-21.

McNally hit 245 runs at an average of 49.5 to win the league batting award and the club’s Champion Player prize.

Matty Soumelides won the bowling trophy with 13 wickets. Abnel Sanil was named most determined and Durie the most improved.

David Rees, was presented with the Tiger Ryan Club Person Award.
