A HUGE community effort is underway as two towns begin the clean up of the October 22 Loddon River floods.
Newbridge and Bridgewater were the first to experience rising waters - the river peaked at abouty 8.3 metres in Bridgewater yesterday at 7.30pm.
By this morning, waters had receded to allow traffic to again connect with Inglewood 7km north.
Waters affected several businesses including the Bridgewater Hotel ands Bridgewater Bakehouse where the local people were helping owners Virginia Hyland and Greg McKinley and Pat and Theresa O'Toole, in their clean, less than 24 hours after they also helped moved stock and equipment to higher ground in the town.
There was also a big cleanup operation at the town's bowling club and several houses in the town.
At Newbridge, recreation reserve committee members and football club officials were assessing significant damage to the area although the main reserve pavilion, rebuilt after the 2011 floods, while damaged, is intact.
And parishioners St John's Anglican Church were also assessing damage. In comparison to 2011, furniture has been saved this time.
THIS WEEK'S SPECIAL LODDON HERALD EDITION WILL HAVE STORIES AND PHOTOS OF THE FLOODS.
