HIStory. Have you ever thought there is power in a story?
I was listening to a program on the ABC the other day and it was talking about a rise in fascination with history. (I know, I am an ABC nerd)
This program was doing a review of a podcast who solely presents history and the rise in interest in their program. The reasoning for their popularity, the producers of this rodcast gave, was that because of the decline of Christianity within our society and the lack of Bible storytelling, which in the past has given our society its identity and greater meaning and purpose, people are now turning to history to fill this void.
Turning to history to find a story that will bring identity, meaning and purpose.
Now I don’t know if the reasoning behind the popularity of this Pod is true, but I thought it was an interesting point that for us to find meaning and purpose we need story or stories.
We love to know about our families, our genealogy, who our ancestors were and the things they did.
Spiritually this is no different, for us to have a solid faith we need to know our story. The who and how things came to be.
Christmas time is a time where we are encouraged again to take another look at the Christ story.
This program has challenged me around what part I can play in reviving our Christan story within my own family and into the communities I work in. The story of God’s great love for all his creation, the sending of his only son Jesus Christ to be the bridge so that humanity can be in an eternal relationship with God. So that once again this important story may bring people identity, meaning and hope.
May you also be encouraged to look at Jesus story again and find the power that is hidden within (HIStory).
