FUEL prices are expected to be 22 cents a litre cheaper across the Loddon from tomorrow.

A halving of the 44 cents a litre fuel excise for six months was announced by the Federal Government in Tuesday’s Budget. The cut was to apply from midnight.

Independent Mallee candidate Sophie Baldwin had been part of a growing chorus calling for excise relief after pump prices jumped above $2 a litre.

“Cost of living is out of control. People in the country have huge distances to travel just to get to work and farmers about to sow are facing huge fuel bills,” she said this month.

A one-off $420 cost of living tax offset was announced low-and-middle income earners.

Individuals already receiving the low and middle income tax offset will now receive up to $1500 and couples up to $3000 from July 1.

And pensioners and welfare recipients are to receive a $250 payment.
