INSTALLATION of CCTV cameras on farm and rural properties would give owners an important tool in reducing risk, Sgt Ben Huismann said this week.
Sgt Huismann, of Wedderburn station, said: “We are trying to promote and encourage CCTV installation as much as we to help reduce farm crime and firearm thefts in rural settings.”
Sgt Huismann said visible CCTV cameras acted as a crime deterrent and could assist police in identifying offenders.
He said cameras could be paired with sensor lights and alarms to maximise protection of properties with the best systems sending alerts to a mobile phone.
The theft of 700 sheep valued at more than $170,000 from a Logan property was reported to police in February
There have also been reports of fuel thefts from Loddon properties this year.and the theft of stored firearms from a Kurting property.
Sgt Huismann said installation of CCTV cameras “provides peace of mind to home and business owners and residents”. He said an information brochure on CCTV cameras was available from Loddon police stations.
