ALAN Davies’ search for his missing Russian purple cat has found two animals drowned in Inglewood Botanic Garden reservoir.

Alan went to the reservoir last week after a neighbour said their father may have seen the cat that had been “his shadow” since before Christmas.

He pulled a cat from the water, still unsure if it was his, and then metres away found another floating near the bank.

“That raised my suspicions,” Alan said. “In the five years here, we have heard stories of cats going missing and being drowned.”

Alan last saw his cat three weeks ago. “It’s been an indoor cat, having a bit of play outside and then always coming in for dinner,” he said.

“It was quite disturbing what I saw. Two cats drowned in the same spot and it does lkook suspicious.”

Alan said he had reported the cat drownings to Loddon Shire, police and the RSPCA.

He said pets taught young people responsibility and were great companions for the elderly. Alan encouraged people who had cats as pets to have them microchipped and if there was a concern about cats, they should authorities.

Loddon Shire operations direcor Steven Phillips said: “Council is aware of this incident and is continuing to investigate, including liaising with the community member who found the animals.

“While there is no change in the number of reported instances of dumped cats in Loddon Shire, the issue of stray and wandering cats in our community is ongoing.

“Council continues to work on a case-by-case basis responding to reports and concerns from residents regarding stray and wandering cats as they are received.”
