CARTERS LEGACY RIDE - Day One on the road
On old postie bikes, riders are on the road to outback Queensland honouring the legacy of Carter Keeble and raising funds for Boort District Health. Owen Rule is one of the riders and gives the first of his daily updates on the ride.
Day 1 - 6th July.
Left Allies hotel 0930 with a small crowd in attendance. Rhondda lead the team out with her flag flying high. It took a while for the group to settle down before arriving at Boort for a refuel then to the showgrounds for a meet the riders and a sausage sizzle
Together with the support crew and riders all went to the Boort cemetery to visit and pay respect to young Carter, the reason for this ride. I reckon Carter would have been pleased to know there were nine motorbikes all lined up beside him.
Next stop Nyah which was mostly uneventful except for the majority of the riders decided to take a shortcut across to the Kerang road but had to double back because it was flooded. Funny that, this time of year.
Dinner was donated and served at the Nyah recreation reserve by the Kerang 4WD Club member which was a magnificent pumpkin soup and casseroles. Thanks very much.
Thought for the day was that saying about your ambitions and abilities. It crossed my mind some time this afternoon whether or not Owens ambitions have exceeded Rhondda's abilities, but we will wait and see.
Early to be to keep warm before the forecasted 3deg overnight sleeping out in a tent and sleeping bag.
Travelled 236km for the day.
