Wedderburn asserted control early, leading St Arnaud by seven shots after just five ends and maintaining command for the remainder of the match.

The quick Wedderburn green proved challenging for the visiting Saints, who struggled to adapt.

The highlight for St Arnaud was a gripping one-shot win by Steve Zsigmond, Glendon Hancock, Greg McNally and Kerryn Dyke over Allan Jackson’s four.

Their rink continued long after the others had finished, drawing a crowd as the result remained uncertain until the final bowl.

Another close battle saw Ashley Dyke, Phil McRae, Col Marchment and Darren Shepherd locked at 14 all with Neil Holt’s team after 17 ends.

But Wedderburn surged home, scoring 15 shots — including a five and a six — to seal a comfortable victory.

INGLEWOOD

The club is in celebration mode after both the Division 1 and Division 5 won their weekend pennant matches last Saturday. And the joy will last for at least a fortnight with pennant having a general bye this Saturday.

Division 5 won its third game for the season and now sits sixth on the ladder. Two rinks had wins and one rink had a draw in a terrific team effort.

The final score was 77-70 over Golden Square, with the best rink on the day featuring Ben Scoble, Barry McNaught, Wendy Wilson and skip Daniel Garrett, which won by 13 shots.

Division 1’s good form over the last two games bore fruit, with a first win for the season and a life from the bottom of the ladder.

The team defeated Golden Square by 15 shots, 81-66.

With sixth-placed North Bendigo to come after the break, that winning feeling might just continue, with the Woodies nipping at their opponents heels in seventh place. Best rink comprised David Smyth, Brendan Hopcott, Vicky Tierney and Arthur Harrison (skip), who won their game by 14 shots.

Midweek pennant was not so successful, with Division 1 losing to Bendigo by 32 shots, and all rinks being beaten, which saw the team stay on the bottom of the ladder. Division 4 also fell short, losing to Bendigo 63-39 and sitting seventh on the ladder after seeing all three rinks defeated.

BRIDGEWATER

Bridghewater’s Division 5 weekend pennant bowls side has reinforced its position in the top four with a strong win over Bendigo, which sits third on the ladder.

After last week’s shock loss to local rivals Inglewood, Bridgewater rebounded with an 11-shot win at Bendigo’s home green.

The visitors won only one rink, but the 34-13 victory outweighed two losses and a draw.

Peter Gath, Craig Payne, Tyler Estrada and Allan Harrison (skip) were the successful rink, with the team of Tim Bryer, Glenn Catto, Jayden Leach and Nicholas Saunders managing a draw.

Bridgewater faces another tough challenge this week, with second placed Castlemaine travelling to the Loddon Shire.

Bridgewater’s Goldfields Division 2 team was well beaten by Maryborough Golf, 63-28, highlighting the side’s difficulties with top teams.
