Bula! Bibs make way to Fijian school

A CHANGE of club sponsor at Pyramid Hill has seen a small village in Fiji gifted 30 netball dresses and bibs.
Bulldogs player Darci Tierney co-ordinated the donation along with Claire Pickles after both were involved in a similar scheme at their previous North Central club Birchip Watchem.
The Bulls sent off their outdated dresses to South Africa.
“We thought that maybe we could look at doing something similar because it’s a bit of a waste to have all that just gathering dust,” Tierney said.
Again, the Pyramid duo turned to Birchip, contacting a former teammate, Fijian-born Ellie Reid, to ask if her home village might want the dresses.
Last Saturday, a package went off to Rukuruku Primary School after Tierney and Pickles collected some last-minute junior uniforms.
Tierney said the school was thrilled with the offer of the dresses.
“They emailed back straight away, and we’ve asked them to send a photo back to us when the dresses arrive.”
Pyramid’s own photo shoot with the club’s Under 13 girls caused some confusion.
“Someone came up and asked if the Fiji team had the same colours as us,” Tierney said.
Rukuruku is on the island has a population of 334.
