Bridgewater, Pyramid Hill chase flags today
BRIDGEWATER’S Division 5 side is into the grand final of Bendigo Area weekend pennant bowls after beating Bendigo 84-67 to set up another clash with Kangaroo Flat.

The teams will meet at Eaglehawk on Saturday, with Bridgey hoping to reverse a big loss in the second semi-final.
That defeat was at Inglewood, where the lightning-fast green was not to Bridgewater’s taste.
Last Saturday’s match against Bendigo was on a green similar to Bridgewater’s own, with a much more positive result.
The sides won two rinks each, with the 20-shot win by Curtis Mangan’s team pivotal.
His rink was a mixture of youth and experience, a combination that has proven successful for Bridgewater throughout the season.
Youthful lead bowler Lachlan Catto and veterans Rae Broadbent and Vern Wilson all played their part in the rink’s 30-10 win.
Bridgewater stalwart Glenn Catto said the club had backed in youth all season and was reaping the benefits.
Jayden Leach is in his first season, while Lachlan Catto and Tyler Estrada are in their second years.
Curtin Mangan has been skip of a team for the past two seasons, having only played for four years.
Glenn Mangan’s rink (Peter Steenhuis, Glenn Catto and Jayden Leach) won 24-10 to help seal the tie.
Bridgewater led by just one shot at the break but some good ends early in the second half saw the team break way from Bendigo.
Kangaroo Flat shapes as a very difficult opponent, with the club’s playing numbers allowing for some astute juggling of teams at the pointy end of the season.
Catto said the forecast for rain this week might work in Bridgewater’s favour, potentially slowing down the Eaglehawk greens.
CALIVIL
The Demons suffered a shattering loss in the Division 3 preliminary final against Strathfieldsaye, going down by just three shots at Golden Square.
The three losing rinks went down by one, two and seven points, cancelling out Calivil’s only win, by seven shots.
It was a painful end to the season for a side that finished on top of the ladder but tumbled out of the finals in straight sets.
Glen Ray’s rink (Murray Collett, Geoffrey Lourie and Graham Maxted) won 22-15 but Nathan Dennis’ team suffered a heartbreaking 21-20 loss.
Matthew Dennis’ rink lost 19-17 and Alan Leech’s team fell 24-17.
Strathfieldsaye will play Kangaroo Flat in the grand final.
PYRAMID HILL
A thrilling three-shot win by Pyramid Hill 1 has seen the team squeeze into the Northern District Division 2 grand final.
The side beat Wakool 2 to advance to the decider against Cohuna Golf 3.
The preliminary final win came on the back of narrow wins by two of the three rinks.
Marie Scott’s rink won 24-21 and Jan Leed’s won 19-17, while Lionel Mann’s team went down by two shots.
Pyramid Hill finished fourth on the ladder after the home and away season, three games behind top side Wakool 2 and two games behind their grand final opponent.
