A MAN has tonight been dramatically rescued from the Loddon River at Bridgewater after falling from the disused railway bridge.

The State Emergency Service rescue boat from Marong was used to bring the man, believed to be aged 22,ashore about 9.30pm.

He had spent at least 45 minutes stranded on an island in the middle of the river, according to witnesses.

"He tripped and fell from the railway bridge, swam to the island but wasn't able to swim to shire," they told the Loddon Herald.
