INGLEWOOD Football Club has this morning used social media to name Fergus Payne as its 2024 coach.
The announcement came just a day after the Blues used online platforms to say Darrell Billett would not coach next season.
Billett had earlier told the Loddon Herald's Editor and The Oracle podcast that he wanted to do one more year after guiding the Blues to their first finals appearance in 20 years.
Sunday's club statement said: "The club wishes to inform members that Darrell Billett will not be continuing as senior coach in 2024.We would like to acknowledge the longstanding contribution Darrell has made to our club, as a player, a coach, and as a life member.Darrell’s passion and commitment to the on-field success of the senior side has been apparent through the last 4 years of his coaching tenure, culminating in a return to seniors finals for the first time in 20 years.Darrell’s willingness to take on the Senior Coaching role when the club was at a low point will always be appreciated and acknowledged as a key reason of why we are in the position we are in today; a position that now allows us to look to the longer term without the need to struggle year to year."
Just 24 hours later the club named Payne, a three-time senior premiership player with Bendigo league club Strathfieldsaye, who had a key on-field presence with the Blues this season.
