Birds fly with champion form

BYRON Bird has taken out the Wedderburn Golf Club A Grade championship.
Playing off a handicap of nine, Bird wrote his name on the trophy with a total of 233 gross after finishing the third round on Saturday.
Keith Bird won the B Grade championship. Off a handicap of 18, Bird worked his way around the course recording 252.
In the final round, Byron also took match day honours with a three-way tie between Cam Taylor, Owen Bailey and McNeil in A Grade with Bailey successful on a countback.
B Grade was won by Keith Bird from John Donaldson.
Best second shot on the second was Cam Taylor and nearest the pin on the 13th Byron Bird.
PYRAMID HILL
The second round of the Pyramid Hill championship was played on Sunday with honours going to Blake Gibson from runner-up Jed Stewart on a countback from Ted Carmody.
The championships will continue this Sunday and the final round will be played on July 9.
The club’s junior program continued on the weekend and their skills are rapidly improving.
The junior program will then have a break for the school holidays with some junior tournament dates and family days to be announced for next term.
BOORT
Robert Johnston and Tim Lanyon are enjoying the tougher conditions now the grass on the Boort fairways has thickened up and the temperature has dropped. Both players have taken turns to win and finish runner-up in the past fortnight with Andrew Kane also picking up a ball both weeks and Alister McDougal being the only other player to take home a prize from the ball run.
In the nearest the pins, Tim has picked up three, with Stuart Tweddle, Kevin Linehan, Andrew Kane, Hamish Lanyon and Di Johnston all picking up one each.
The championships based on the two best rounds so far, with one round to go sees Andrew lead in A Grade by 14 from Stuart and 16 from Tim Lanyon.
B-Grade has Rob Johnston with a 16-shot lead from both Kevin and Alister.
Weaver Cup has Rob and Tim sharing the lead on 147 with Andrew two behind, Stuart four behind and Kevin seven behind.
A reminder that a pizza dinner will follow the final round and presentations of the championships next Saturday.
King’s Birthday long weekend play had Robert Johnston 83 11 72 win from Tim Lanyon 81 8 73.
Last Saturday it was Tim with 82 8 74 from Robert 86 11 75.
INGLEWOOD
Wednesday ladies were lucky enough to have perfect weather conditions for golf.
Helen Ward saw a welcome return to form in the stroke event with 56-12-44 ahead of Carol Canfield with 75-23.5-51.5.
Winner of the 2nd shot nearest the pin on the 14th was also Helen capping off a good day’s golf.
The Sunday men had soft conditions after some overnight rain with a strong and icy breeze blowing across the course.
The par format event saw Rob Stranger take out the day with -1 from Nathan Joyner -2 and David Vanston -3 in the tough scoring conditions.
The club will again hold a school holiday clinic following sponsorship from Inglewood IGA.
