Big weekend as skiers out to master river
SIXTY water skiers are set to hit the Loddon River at Bridgewater over the long weekend for the Australian Masters Water Ski Championships.

The event is considered second only in Australia to the famous Moomba Masters event on the Yarra in March and has drawn a field from throughout the country.
Bridgwater Water Ski Club president Lee Bray said the ages of entrants ranged from eight to 77. The categories begin with Under-10 boys and girls through to Over-75 open events.
For such a physical sport, longevity in water skiing is remarkable.
Bray said the senior world championships in France last year had an Over-85 category, with three entrants.
At Bridgewater, participants take part in slalom, jumps and tricks competitions on the Loddon course just south of the bridge. It is the club’s biggest event of the year and has been held at Bridgewater for the past 18 years.
Bray said the club had just secured a contract extension to continue hosting the championships through to 2028.
