Barley bites thee b itumen
BUNKER brooms have brushed barley from the bitumen in Boort.
Crews from the grain co-op spent four hours last Friday clearing Boort-Pyramid Hill Road of an estimated 15 tonnes that spewed onto the bitumen after a truck container lock malfunction.
The truck was carrying two containers with an estimated 50 tonnes of grain destined for Tasmania.
“A lock malfunction allowed a door to come open and lose approximately 15 tonne of barley along the Boort Pyramid Road,” said Boort Fire Brigade captain Kel Mayberry.
CFA volunteers and police controlled traffic for four hours while the road was cleared. Co-op crews attached the bunker brooms to heavy machinery and clear the road.
