Ava wakes to a ‘perfect’ shock
THE sleep-in was disturbed on Thursday morning for Ava Maxted when mother Paula suggested she really should check the VCE results.

Ava eventually stirred about 9am - two hours after results were released on time - first rubbing the eyes, then in shock at achieving a perfect 50 study score in outdoor and environmental studies.
It was one of two study scores in the 40s for Ava who achieved an ATAR of 91.9.and has been named dux of East Loddon P12 College.
“I didn’t believe the 50 ... I was shocked so see that score,” Ava said at her family’s Jarklin farm on Saturday as she enjoyed a day off from working at Grain Corp’s Boort silos.
The enthusiasm for Ava to check results saw Paula literally staying “mum”. Outdoor and environmental studies teacher Sarah Krahe had given Paula the heads-up.
“Sarah has been a fabulous teacher ” said Ava said who fell just short of a third 40-plus study score in physical education in a year where she aimed to balance the workload and enter examinations with a positive mindset.
“I thought I had put in the work and hoped everything would pay off.
Ava has applied for a scholarship to study physiotherapy.
Fellow student Abi Johns received an ATAR of 90.8 and a study score of 46 in psychology.
Abi is planning a gap year before studying veterinary science.
