Words of inspiration will flow at writer’s festival

TOP AUSTRALIAN authors and illustrators will connect Loddon students with inspirational words at the first Boort District School Writer’s Festival.
Regionally-based writers have signed up to speak with students on the enjoyment of books in April.
School literacy learning specialist Sharon Pickering said: “We have four authors coming to our school to present across the day ... and they will be joined by journalists and former students talking about how they use the written word in their employment every day.”
“The festival will promote reading and writing ... a real celebration of the written word to engage and inspire students from prep through to Year 10,” she said.
“And what’s really good is that these writers are people living in regional areas, country people behind award-winning novels and other books, top illustrators.”
Sharon said students would have works in a writing competition with festival keynote speakers providing feedback.
Top authors who have accepted the festival invitation include award-winning crime fiction writer Fluer Ferris, Bendigo-based Amy Doak, Jack Henseleit and his illustrator Chris Tennant.
