A MAJOR touring festival will have Pyramid Hill as one of 13 stops in Victoria and New South Wales next month.
Pyramid Hill Memorial Hall will host Icelandic folk singer Svavar Knútur and Australian folk duo The Maes in this year’s  Festival of Small Halls Tour.
The festival is presented by the world-renowned team behind Woodford Folk Festival.
Festival of Small Halls is Australia’s largest regional music tour.
Loaded with a van full of bunting, instruments, folk spirit - and world renowned musicians, the Autumn tour kicks off at Willaura, before heading to the Port Fairy Folk Festival and finishing at The National Folk Festival in Canberra.
The gruff, yet gentle Icelandic troubadour Svavar Knútur hails from the seldom seen north of Iceland.  “I visited Australia in 2007 and in 2010 and met so many awesome people. I had the most wonderful time and wrote some of my favourite songs while on tour in Australia. I’ve been itching to come back” Svavar said.
The Maes - sisters Maggie and Elsie Rigby - grew up the children of folk musicians, immersed in folk festivals, choir rehearsals and campfire sessions.
“Playing in regional places is something close to our hearts. We never tire of a new highway, a new country bakery pie.
“On a personal note, the first full tour we did was Festival of Small Halls 10 years ago. It feels fitting and healing to return to Small Halls, and we’ve heard Pyramid Hill is something special” said The Maes.
