ANGLERS have taken to the banks of the Loddon River for the opening of the Murray cod season.
Members of the Kyneton club camped at Salisbury West where bait and spinners helped anglers hook dozens of yellow bellies.
“There were a few Murray cod but they were too heavy for our members to pull in as we were using gear best for landing redfin and trout not the bigger cod,” said John Condliffe. He said more than 50mm of rain leading up to the season opening had put additional life into the Loddon River.
“The rain was just enough to get the fish moving,” he said.
“The water has been a bit darker this weekend and that meant having to use darker lures.”
John also said weekend catches had been good weights.
