KINGOWER made quick work of a depleted Wedderburn in Upper Loddon cricket on Saturday.
The association’s only un-defeated side needed just 18 overs to overtake Wedderburn’s paltry 70 runs scored on home turf.
Wedderburn’s time at the crease had been short lived with Kyle Simpson striking early with the wicket of opener Jimmy Van de Wetering in the second over when caught by Matt Rowe and then fellow opening Finn Turnbull was back to the pavilion lbw in the fifth over.
At 2/8, Cam Steel gave Wedderburn some hope before Lachie de Jong had the wickets of Luke and Isaac Holt.
The home side was at 4/23 when Brad Holt supported Steel at the crease for a 39-run partnership.
A slower ball from Matt Rowe had Holt dismissed for nine.
The return of de Jong for his second stint soon paid dividends.
Steel, who already had seven boundaries to his name, was tempted to extend the luck he had enjoyed with Rowe’s deliveries.
But the de Jong ball was lobbed into the hands of Riley Murphy and Wedderburn was 6/62.
The final three wickets, including Adam Postle for a golden duck, fell in quick success.
Matt Rowe and Will Deason put together a 31-run opening partnership that was broken when Van de Wetering caught Rowe off Postle’s bowling.
Deason and Simpson then added another 25 runs to sit on 55 runs after 15 overs.
Kingower then moved the ball well around the ground to wrap up the match when Deason fell for 38 to just the second ball delivered for the day by Matt Lockhart.
Wedderburn is expected to be bolstered by the return of several players, including opening bowler Will Holt, when it takes on Arnold at Arnold this Saturday.
Boort Yando forfeited its match against Arnold, short of players due to a push to advance harvest in the district before predicted rain this week. This Saturday, Boort Yando faces Kingower at Boort District School oval.
