Ambo station backers want new commitment
THE ditched promise of a new ambulance station for Wedderburn must be reversed to save lives and give safety, security and respect to ambulance officers, said community campaigner Darryl Arnott.

THE ditched promise of a new ambulance station for Wedderburn must be reversed to save lives and give safety, security and respect to ambulance officers, said community campaigner Darryl Arnott.
Mr Arnott said he had taken the case to Ripon MP Martha Haylett and Nationals candidate Jo Armstrong.
“Ambulance stations in other areas do not have the call out rate Wedderburn has,” said Darryl, who is a member of the CERT committee of management.
“It does not matter who I speak to - the Government reps, Ambulance Victoria, ambulance officers, Loddon Shire reps - all have agreed this ambulance station is needed.
“The wor load that these ambulance crews here in Wedderburn have is the greatest indicator that this urgent station is required.
“If everyone has agreed that this ambulance station should be built including the Victorian Government, I would like to know a starting date for this needed build.
“We are unable to have full time paramedics here if our ambulance (crews are based) out of an old house.”
Wedderburn’s CERT crew is based at the former police station house.
Ambulance Victoria in March said it had dumped plans for a station in the town, months after Ms Haylett in Parliament invited then Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas to visit her electorate where there would be “a new ambulance station in Wedderburn very soon”.
Loddon Shire Council had agreed to sell land in Wilson Street to Ambulance Victoria to be the station site.
Ambulance Victoria in March did not answer questions on whether its decision was forced by a tightening budget or whether funds for Wedderburn, believed to be $3.5 million, had been allocated to other building projects.
In correspondence to Mr Arnott, Ms Haylett’s office said: “Martha understands the need for a service in Wedderburn and continues to liaise with her colleagues advocating on behalf of Wedderburn.”
Mr Arnott said on Monday the Wedderburn community would continue pressing the State Government to honour its original commitment to build an ambulance station in the town.
