Ms Allan is expected to be challenged on Tuesday by her deputy Ben Carroll.

Ripon MP Martha Haylett said this afternoon: "It's a matter for ther Caucus and I won't be commenting further until we have all met."

Reports this morning say she has been "tapped on the shoulder", the message that she has lost the support of the majority of colleagues as Labor's electoral fortunes plummet four months out from November's state election.

The Bendigo East MP has been under pressure for months. Her major woes started with the controversial emergency services tax that has triggered widespread unrest across country Victoria.

Her government has been mired by claims of corruption, ballooning state debt and fears of a wipeout in November.

Ripon MP Martha Haylett last month said she was not spooked by latest polling showing the government of Premier Jacinta Allan is facing a wipeout at November’s state election.

Ms Haylett and Regional Development Minister Michaela Settle both backed the embattled member for Bendigo East during their visit to Newbridge.

Ms Settle said: “She (the Premier) is probably the most hard-working person I have ever had the honour to work alongside.

“She works hard every day to try and find new and practical ways that we can support the community through what we all know (are) tough times - the fuel and fertiliser issues particularly felt in regional areas,”

Ms Haylett said: “Polls ... come out all the time, what we have to do is as MPs focus on delivery and focus on every single day working hard for our communities.”

“The people will decide come in November and you know, every four years we are up for you know, for a new job.

“And I look forward to working with the communities across London Shire to deliver more for them between now and the election,” Ms Haylett said.

Ms Haylett said she “absolutely” supported the Premier leading the Government’s to the November 28 election.
