AGRICULTURE Victoria staff have checked the health of more than 250 chicks in Inglewood after the adjoining Jennings store was destroyed by fire on Thursday.
Officials assessed the health of the chicks sold by David Oakley who has owned and operated the general hardware store for almost 50 years.
The Loddon Herald understands that any affects of heat and smoke stress in the chicks from the fire may take several days to appear.
Agriculture Victoria is the responsible authority for checking animal health where more than 50 animals are impacted.
The historic building has now been fenced off and safety bunting placed across the front.
More than 30 firefighters battled the blaze from 3pm Thursday with the site being declared safe early Friday morning.
