Zombie comeback
HUNDREDS of “zombie” fish will be released at Canary Island today after an extensive breeding program of the species close to extinction.
The surrogate site at Greg and Jo Bear’s property follows breeding of the southern purple-spotted gudgeon and will be one of four across northern Victorian wetlands.
North Central Catchment Management Authority project officer Peter Rose said about 2000 fish would be released in coming months at several surrogate sites where the wetland species will be monitored through to next autumn for survival and breeding.
