Young firies step up

RHEOLA Fire Brigade has enlisted junior members and adult junior leaders in a program to form its next group of local firefighters.

Youngsters aged between 11 and 15 years have been enrolled in the CFA junior volunteer development program.

The program will involve training and skill development to grow these young members as firefighters and leaders of tomorrow. It will cover teamwork and leadership as well as firefighter skills, first aid and community education skills.

Rheola captain Phil Vernon said it had long been an aim of the brigade to reform a junior brigade to develop local children.

“None of us are getting any younger”, Captain Vernon said.
