Whopper harvest

HIGH-YIELDING canola and faba bean crops have lifted Loddon harvest to record levels.

Boort Grain Co-op has taken delivery of 15,000 tonnes of faba beans, triple its previous high of 5000 tonnes in 2020-2021.

And at the Graincorp Mitiamo silo, a record 82,000 tonnes of canola, wheat and barley was received– the most grain the site has ever received.

Silos across the region are now at the tail end of their harvest receivals with some farmers recording three good seasons on the trot.

Boort Co-op manager Jon Bucknall said the increase in faba beans, mostly destined for export to the Middle East, had also been driven by better yields and growers in southern New South Wales delivering to the local silos.
