Volunteers gain skills

FRESH from passing their breathing apparatus training, Korong Vale Fire Brigade volunteers were honing their skills at the town fire station on Monday night.

Brigade lieutenants Tom Bligh and Kevin Walton, Melonie Moore and Jack McLennan completed five special sessions at Wedderburn to have Korong Vale brigade able to use breathing apparatus for the first time.

Melonie said a minimum of four brigade members had to be accredited before the equipment was issued to a brigade.

She said the training now put Korong Vale skills on a similar level to Inglewood and Wedderburn brigades.

“We think it’s important for our brigade and the town to have these skills ... we’ve been waiting for ages to have the equipment,” Melonie said.
