Van park change

PUBLICAN Paul Carter has taken over management of Pyramid Hill Caravan Park.

Last week’s handover by Loddon Shire Council followed the town’s progress association stepping down from the role after 15 years.

Paul, licensee of the town’s Victoria Hotel, and council paid tribute to the voluntary contribution of association members.

“They have been fantastic volunteers looking after the park for so long,” said acting chief executive officer Jude Holt.

Council recently upgraded the park with a new amenity building, lighting and entrance.

Paul said management of the caravan park would be a good fit with the hotel.

“It’s a complementary business for us in hospitality and accommodation. We already have patrons who stay at the hotel and the caravan park will increase the options for visitors looking to book into town,” he said.

“As a local source of tourist information, management of the park will also allow us to further promote the town and the area.

“And we’ll be offering visitors special welcome packages.”

The caravan park is on the walking track from the centre of town to the hill.

“Every weekend, people trek from the hill to the pub They come from Bendigo, Echuca, Kerang and other parts of Victoria,” Paul said.

The park has 30 powered and unpowered sites and one cabin. It is also one of the shire’s designated RV-friendly camping sites.

The park had enjoyed high occupancy rates until COVID hit almost two years ago. “We hope to see visitors staying at the park increase over the next few months,” Paul said.

“It’s a great location being next to the swimming pool and so close to town.”

Paul said the progress association would continue to play a role in the park’s use and future.
